Some Recipes for a Mexican Themed Evening!

We have a huge selection of cookbooks here at the store, and the amount of recipes available is fantastic! That being said, we do love to share some of our favourites so that you can get a taste of what's in store for you when you pick up a recipe book (or two!) for yourself. When you come by the store, ask us for guidance to our favourites and what's special about each book, and we will be more than happy to help you select the best ones for what you need!

Classic Margarita


1 1/2 oz silver Tequila 

1 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec)

3/4 oz freshly squeezed lime juice 

Agave Nectar or simple syrup to taste 

Ice cubes 

Lime wedge 


Add tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice and a few ice cubes to a cocktail shaker.  Cover and shake vigorously for about 10 seconds.  Give the mix a taste and stir in 1-2 teaspoons of agave or simple syrup. Fill a glass with ice and strain over the margarita mix.  Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy!  Cheers!

Yummy Turkey Chilli


2 tsp olive oil

1 onion 

3 garlic cloves, minced 

1 medium red bell pepper, chopped

1 pound extra lean ground Turkey 

4 tbsp chili powder 

2 tsp ground cumin 

1 tsp dried oregano 

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

1/2 tsp salt

1 (28oz) can of diced tomatoes 

1 1/4 cups chicken broth 

2 (15oz) cans dark red kidney beans, rinsed & drained

1 (15oz) can sweet corn (rinsed & drained)


Step 1: 

Place oil in Staub Cocotte or large pot and place over medium high heat.  Add in onion, garlic & red pepper and sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently.

Step 2: 

Add in ground Turkey and break up the meat; cooking until no longer pink.  Next add chili powder, cumin, oregano, cayenne pepper & salt; stir for about 20 seconds. 

Step 3:

Next add in tomatoes, chicken broth, beans and corn.  Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 35-40 minutes or until chili thickens and flavors come together.  Taste and adjust seasonings and salt as necessary.

The BEST Guacamole


2 ripe avocados  

1/4 tsp salt

2 fresh limes, juiced

2-4 tbsp diced onion

1 jalapeño, diced 

2 tbsp chopper cilantro 

Pinch of black pepper 

1/2 ripe tomato, chopped & seeded 

Oxo Good Grips 3-in-1 Avocado Slicer (Shop it here)


Use the Oxo Good Grips 3-in-1 Avocado Slicer and mash the avocado in a bowl with a fork to make it chunky.  Add the remaining ingredients to the avocados and stir together.  Add salt, pepper& lime juice.
Serve with tortilla chips!
