Soothe Your St Patrick’s Day Hangover

Picture
We’ve all been there before, sipping green beer after green beer, hoping the luck of the Irish will be on our side in the morning and we don’t have a hangover. We’ve learned over the years that when it comes to St. Paddy’s Day you must pace yourself and make sure to mix in a water, but the older we get the harder it is to avoid that green beer hangover. Thanks to your friends at Heart of the Home we’ve got everything you need to make sure March 18 isn’t a complete write off of a day, because we all know that a Sunday well spent brings a week of content.

Eat A Full Breakfast

Picture
We know, eating a full breakfast may feel like a huge task when hungover, but we promise it will help. Drinking alcohol leads to a drop in your blood sugar, so the best way to boost it is by having a nice glass of apple, or fruit juice. You then want to snack on potassium-rich foods like bananas or spinach and be sure to scramble up some eggs. Research shows that the taurine found in eggs can reverse liver damage caused by heavy drinking. For added antioxidant power throw some spinach in the scrambled eggs.

If you’re not feeling up to chewing anything, make yourself a green smoothie. The recipe below is one of our favourites.

Easy Peasy Green Smoothie

  • ½ cup spinach
  • ½ cup kale
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup of plain or vanilla greek yogurt
  • ½ cup mango or pineapple
  • 1 banana (peeled)

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Add spinach and kale to blender with water. Blend together until all chunks are gone.
  2. Add greek yogurt to spinach, kale and water mix. Blend together until smooth.
  3. Toss in mango or pineapple and banana to blender.
  4. Blend everything together until smooth and creamy.
  5. Pour into a glass and serve immediately.
  6. You can also store the smoothie in the fridge until ready to drink.

*Smoothie is best served cold. Use frozen fruit or ice to achieve cold temperature.

Not in to trying a green smoothie? Make a banana and honey milkshake instead!

dRINK A hot Cup of Tea

Did you wake up with an upset stomach? A nice and hot cup of tea will help, especially when it’s in a fun mug that tells your roommates or family members exactly how you’re feeling. This Hungover mug from Fred and Friends is available in store now!

Hydrate inside and Out

We all know that hydration is key when it comes to combating a hangover. Rehydrate by drinking 8 glasses of water. Looking to add a fresh flavour to your water? Try tossing in cucumbers and lemons or limes.

Not only do we need to make sure we are hydrating the inside of your body, we also need to take care of the outside. We always find that our skin is extremely dry after an evening of heavy drinking. We combat that by moisturizing with our favourite Brompton and Langley Luxurious Hand and Body Cream.

Do as the Irish Do

If none of these hangover cures sound good to you, do as the Irish do and cure it with the hair of the dog. What does this mean? It means sitting back down at a bar stool and having one last beer – Guinness to be exact.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
