It's that time of the year - pumpkin season - but it's certainly not easy to cut them correctly. Thanks to Zwilling, now we know how!
How to prepare pumpkin
1. Don't remove the skin, it can be eaten. Briefly wash the pumpkin under cold running water and dry it with a clean kitchen towel.
2. Use a large chef's knife, the Zwilling Pro Chef's knife is the perfect tool for the job. Rock the knife in a see-saw motion as you cut. Top and tail it, then cut it in half.
3. Use a table spoon to remove the pulp and seeds.
4. Hold the pumpkin firmly and continue cutting into sections.
Check back next week for a spicy pumpkin recipe!
Heart of the Home carries a large assortment of Zwilling J.A. Henckels products. Pop by the store or give us a call to see what's new!
When things get busy one of the easiest things to fall on the back burner is home cooking and pre-made lunches. Whether for yourself, your significant other or your kids, it's easy to quickly lose inspiration, motivation and excitement over packing lunches. Our staff, here at Heart of the Home, have gathered their favourite tricks to help you pack lunches that are simple, easy and delicious.
Switch Up Your Sandwich
PB&J or bologna sandwiches get old, FAST. Ditch the bread and opt in for pita. This SELF-Starter Dill Honey-Mustard Chicken Salad Pita is an easy and healthy alternative. Use pre-cooked or a store-bought rotisserie bird to save you even more time.
Use Left Overs
Having a family dinner on Sunday night? Don't let your leftovers go to waste! It's helpful to double portion while cooking and toss the extras right into a container. If you do it right, you can have lunches for the week! Here are 10 Dinner recipes that make great lunches!
Get a Fun Lunch Box
Get a lunch box that makes packing lunches easy and way more fun. We LOVE the Fuel Bento Boxes (in store right now) because they not only keeps our lunch organized but is also visually appealing. You can also make it into a fun to challenge to see how many choices of proteins, grains, fruits and veggies you can fit into it.
When in Doubt, Just Make Chicken
Grilled chicken, crispy chicken, baked chicken. Chicken. All. The Time. We like to toss a bunch of chicken breasts into the oven with our favourite seasonings. You can then chop it up into small pieces, strips or leave as is. Chicken is great for salads, sandwiches, wraps and more! These 5 chicken dinners have gourmet flavours and don't require expert cooking skills!
We're not sure about you, but our team over here at Heart of the Home has been just a tad obsessed with pineapples. Maybe it's the warm Edmonton weather we've been blessed with, mixed with the sweet, tangy fruit that get's us excited about all things pineapple, or maybe it's just that you can do SO many things with pineapples! From pineapple salsa, and pineapple chicken, to this absolutely delicious pineapple mojito, we are hooked.
What's your favourite way to eat pineapple?
FOR THE PINEAPPLE SYRUP
FOR THE MOJITOS
In a saucepan, bring the pineapple, brown sugar and 4 cups of water to a boil. Simmer over moderately low heat, stirring, until the pineapple is very soft and the mixture is reduced to 2 1/2 cups, 40 minutes. Strain the mixture into a heatproof bowl, pressing on the solids; discard the solids. Let the syrup cool; you should have about 1 1/3 cups.
In a pitcher, muddle the pineapple and mint leaves. Stir in the rum, lime juice and 1 cup of the pineapple syrup. Pour into 8 glasses and add ice. Top with club soda and garnish with mint sprigs and lime wedges.
The syrup can be refrigerated for 2 weeks.
